Range Rules, Terms & Conditions
FOC Gun Range is operated by Firearms Outlet Canada Inc. Membership programs are administered by the Durham Shooting Club Inc. All guests, members, and visitors must comply with the following rules at all times.

Fundamental Firearms Safety Rules
All shooters must follow the core principles of safe firearm handling at all times:

Assume all firearms are loaded.

Control the muzzle. Never point a firearm at anything you are not willing to shoot or destroy.

Trigger finger must be straight and off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you are ready to shoot.
-
See that the firearm is unloaded - PROVE it safe.

Point the firearm in a safe direction.
-
Remove all ammunition. Remove magazine and clear the chamber.

Observe the Chamber
-
Verify the feeding path
-
Examine the bore.

General Range Rules
-
All shooters must successfully complete a range safety briefing prior to use.
Members must complete the Durham Shooting Club safety course. -
Eye and hearing protection must be worn before entering the range and remain on until exiting.

Expectant mothers are not permitted on the range.

The Range Master and Range Officers must be obeyed at all times and have full authority to inspect firearms, ammunition, and equipment.

No alcohol, cannabis, drugs, or intoxicating substances are permitted. Anyone suspected of impairment will be denied access.

No food, beverages, tobacco, or vaping products are permitted on the range.

Closed-toe footwear is mandatory. Tank tops, shorts, and high heels are strongly discouraged.

Shooters must remain courteous and aware of others at all times.
-
Any unsafe behaviour, injury, or malfunction must be reported immediately to Range Staff.

Individuals expressing intent to harm themselves or others will not be permitted on the range.​

Minors
-
Shooters under 18 years of age must be directly supervised by a parent or legal guardian.
-
No one under 10 years of age is permitted on the range.

Minors may not have their own lane. A parent or guardian must remain within arm’s length at all times.

Firearm Handling & Conduct
-
Firearms may only be handled at your assigned lane and bench.
-
Firearms must always be pointed downrange, including during casing and uncasing.
-
Firearms must be cleared and cased before leaving the firing line.
-
Firearms may not be passed between lanes unless fully cased.
-
No firearm handling is permitted in lounges or classrooms. No ammunition is allowed in classrooms at any time.
-
If a malfunction occurs, leave the firearm pointed downrange and contact Range Staff immediately.
-
Drawing from a holster is prohibited unless under the supervision of a Certified Range Officer or specifically authorized through membership privileges.
-
Cross-lane firing is strictly prohibited.
-
Only one loaded firearm may be handled at a time.
-
Rapid, uncontrolled fire, dual-wielding, or unsafe shooting practices are not permitted.

Cease Fire Procedures
Upon a CEASE FIRE command:

Stop shooting immediately
-
Clear the firearm
-
Place it on the bench pointed downrange
-
Step back from the firing line
Shooting may resume only after the ALL CLEAR command.

Ammunition & Targets

Only approved ammunition and targets are permitted.
-
Prohibited ammunition includes:
-
Armour-piercing
-
Tracer
-
Explosive
-
Bi-metal or steel-core
-
Birdshot
-
Any projectile attracted to a magnet

Reloaded ammunition may only be used in personally owned firearms and is used at the shooter’s own risk.

Reloaded ammunition is not permitted in rental firearms.
-
All rental firearms must use range-purchased ammunition.

Only authorized paper targets may be used. Reactive or offensive targets are prohibited.

Facility & Enforcement

Damage to the facility may result in fees, suspension, or termination of range privileges.
-
The Range Master reserves the right to refuse service or remove anyone who violates rules or endangers others.

Questions or clarifications should be directed to Range Staff at any time.

Legal Compliance
All federal, provincial, and municipal firearms laws must be obeyed at all times. Only individuals legally eligible to possess and use firearms under Canadian law may participate.
